About Us
From childhood, Manchester-born Keith Hanvey aspired to play local football and cricket at both junior and senior levels.
After passing his A levels at Ashton College, Keith opted to sign his first professional contract with football rather than County Cricket at Lancashire, signing for the Manchester City legends Malcolm Allison and Joe Mercer.
Keith debuted in 1971 against Airdrie in the Texaco Cup, only to succumb to a serious thigh injury in his following match against Newcastle United. His 2 year rehabilitation was helped by the support of City greats Mike Summerbee, Colin Bell and Francis Lee.
After being on loan to Swansea Keith returned to a changed regime under the stewardship of Johnny Hart and was subsequently signed by Rochdale in 1974 by Walter Joyce.
Two years grass roots duty ensued and in 1976 he completed a transfer to Grimsby Town for £15,000 under John Newman.
Under the changed Freedom of Contract rules governing players 1978 Keith almost became the landmark first test case in a dispute between Grimsby and Huddersfield Town before reaching an out of court settlement in 1978.
Six years solid service followed at Huddersfield prior to a transfer to Rochdale on a part time contract. A torn groin injury sustained in the FA Cup tie the same year hastened Keith’s retirement from the game.
Ron Atkinson marshalled Manchester United to play Huddersfield for Keith’s testimonial capping a career spanning almost 500 league appearances across all divisions.
Immediately the Stamford Group moved to appoint Keith as Sales Executive, however it was inevitable that football loomed large with Huddersfield Town appointing as Commercial Manager in 1986.
Following the publication of the Taylor Report Keith lobbied hard in the pursuit of securing a new stadium for the club, only to resign when the Board subsequently vetoed his proposals.
Joining Bradford City in 1990 as Chief Commercial Executive Keith went on to the Telegraph & Argus as Commercial Manager in 1993.
A double tour of duty ensued at Leeds United: firstly in 1993, as the unique East Stand Manager before going on to become Commercial Manager in 1995. This capped a close personal and professional relationship with the club which lasted until his departure in 2002. Keith still remains the compere in the Corporate areas on Matchdays.
